I am running for the State Senate to change the way they are doing business in Frankfort. Under the present leadership in the State Senate the wheels of progress have stopped. The Senate president is more concerned with controlling people than with serving people, and the people’s business has taken a back seat to his agenda. I want to go to Frankfort and put the focus back on jobs and education where it belongs. When I was in the General Assembly I worked in a bipartisan manner to solve problems and address Kentucky’s needs. I will do that as a State Senator.
Like many others, I’m troubled by the recent actions of our legislators during these tough economic times. While families are struggling, legislators, including my opponent, give themselves more perks and bigger budgets. That’s wrong. I want to send a message to both political parties in Frankfort that business as usual is over. It’s time to cut perks, cut spending, hold down taxes and create jobs.
We need to have a legislature that imposes financial sacrifices on itself. After all, Kentucky families have to tighten their belts in this difficult economy. In my business, when times are tough, I spend less. Unfortunately, the legislature has a different approach: More perks and higher spending. That's wrong!
I can change that. My opponent cannot.
If my opponent is elected, he will join the group which supports the current Senate leadership. These are the same leaders who are spending hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars on exotic travel, fancy decorations for their offices and fat pensions. This election is not so much about me as it is about you and your children and the kind of place we create for them in Kentucky. I hope you will join with me to make our Kentucky home a better place for our children.
